Master Blaster Suresh Raina gives pep talk to SRM Students.
Kattankulathur, September 26, 2019: In a strong motivational speech, Indian cricketer Suresh Raina told students to set their goals and work to achieve them with a sense of purpose and enjoyment. “Just enjoy yourself, set your goals and achieve them with a smile,“ said Raina who was the guest of honour at the inauguration of the 13th edition of Aaruush, the national level Techno-Management Fest at the SRM Institute of Science and Technology. “If you have education, you can achieve anything,” he said motivating students to enjoy their studies.
One of India’s most successful cricketers who played in a One Day International against England last year and has been out of action due to an injury, showed how fighting fit he is as he strode the stage at the Dr.T.P. Ganesan Auditorium on the Kattankulathur campus with his customary swagger and infectious enthusiasm accompanied by SRMIST President Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Registrar N. Sethuraman, faculty directors and student organizers.
“It is an honour to be invited for this tech fest at SRM and I just love the energy of the students,” the left handed middle order batsman said fielding queries from the audience with aplomb as he was asked about when he would make a comeback to Team India and his future in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL squad led by former India Captain M. S. Dhoni, Raina said he has recovered well and hoped to play for India again soon. “Dhoni is fine and you will see him soon (with CSK),” he said.
Asked to speak a few words in Tamil by a student fan, Raina said, “konjum konjum, Vannakam, Nandree (Little Little, Greetings, Thanks). Raina also obliged another student who requested him to say ‘Whistle Podu for CSK’ (Whistle for CSK Team). Over 6,000 students packed the auditorium and their cheers sounded like a huge crowd in a cricket stadium.
Director, Research and Innovation Centre, Government of India, Dr. V. Natarajan kicked off the 4-day event in which around 1000 students from various colleges in the country would participate.
"SRM will launch a national wide sports festival soon", announced President of SRMIST, Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan. Addressing students he said, "Aaruush 2019 is a grand fest. Aaruush literally means a ray of hope (for future of students). This national level techno-management fest is a big opportunity for students to improve their knowledge. You must enjoy what you are doing. Without enjoyment there cannot be involvement. Students should observe from
such events and find aspiration and innovation. Only through innovation you can find a path to win." He also said that the event's tagline 'Rising in the Spirit of Innovation' should soon become a reality. "This fest is not just for students but for everyone in the institution. The management will also support to make this an international one."
Aaruush convenor Dr. A. Rathinam introduced Raina urging students to enjoy the experience of interacting with the Vice Captain of the CSK team.
Union Human Resource Development Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal will be the chief guest at the valedictory function of the Aaruush fest on Sunday, September 29, 2019.

தமிழ்ப்பேராய விருதுகள் - 2018
Kattankulathur, September 29, 2019: Union HRD Minister, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, said Sunday that educational hubs in the forefront of scientific and technological innovations had a key role to play in the creation of ‘Naya Bharat’ (New India) envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Delivering the valedictory address as the curtains came down on the 13th edition of Aaruush, A National Level Techno-Management Fest organized by the SRM Institute of Science and Technology at its Kattankulathur campus, near Chennai, Dr. Pokhriyal said the ‘Ja Anusandhan’ (Hail Innovation) call given by Prime Minister Modi was a progression from the previous slogans of ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ (Salute to Soldiers and Farmers) and ‘Jai Vigyan’ (Hail Science) coined by his predecessors Lal Bahadur Shastri and Atal Behari Vajpayee.
“Institutions like SRM Institute of Science and Technology have a pivotal role to play in realizing the ‘Jai Anusandhan’ call given by PM Modi, “ he said.
SRM founder chancellor and Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar said the focus on indigenous research and start-ups at SRMIST was crucial to fulfil the objective unveiled in the draft new educational policy of converting educational institutes into research hubs and ‘Make in India’ mission that would result in replacement of ‘Made in China’ and ‘Made in Japan’ labels on products.
Punning on the meaning of Aaruush as the first rays of the sun and Utsav as a festival, the minister said the techno-management fest was living up to the vision of late Scientist President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam who had inaugurated the Aaruush Fest in 2007. “Mere Seena mein nahin, tho tere seena mein sahin, Ho Kahin bhi Aag Lekin Aag Jalne Chahi hain, Itna Jala ki Jo Rasta Dikha Saken Ek Ujwal Bhavishya Ke Aur,” (Let there be the fire in you so high that it should burn bright and show us the way ahead), Dr. Pokhriyal told students in his characteristic poetic way reiterating the vision of Dr. Kalam who had great regard for youth and their role to shape the future of India.
"AARUUSH is an event to celebrate new ideas. I am impressed to see that more than 200 institutions are part of this festival," he said. "Abdul Kalam has been my inspiration and it is because of him that I released a collection of poetry. I think that we should all follow his words 'We should dream with our eyes wide open'." He emphasized the fact that education is the back bone for India and it will help in raising our standards, especially in the area of science and technology.
On a jovial note he said, "I see a mini India here. I am impressed to see that SRMIST has students from all the Indian states and Union Territories. The institution is like a bouquet of flowers. These flowers are not only the future of our family but for India and the country to emerge as ‘Vishwa Guru’ world leader in future. If this has to become a reality, you should be great thinkers." Recalling the words of Atal Bihari Vajpayee he said that students should think great to have a great future.
Later, he awarded prizes to students from different institutions in the country who had competed in the technical exposition and opened a state-of-the-art Rs. 120 crore new building, Sir C. V. Raman Research Park, in the campus. Students from IITs and NITs participated in the techno-fest.
SRMIST President Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan said, "Students are propelling AARUUSH in a great way and I wish it will become an international event soon. This is an event that is done by the students, of the students and for the students”.
“Although this is a competition, it is an opportunity to find a career path. This festival is the right environment to do start-ups. In India there are about 25 unicorns and the number will grow in the next five years. Currently India is ranked fouth in the world in terms of start-ups and events like AARUUSH will help build up this number." He concluded by saying that students are our ray of hope and the future of our nation.
Among those present were Vice Chancellor Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, Registrar Dr. N. Sethuraman and Aaruush Convenor Dr. A. Rathinam.
