SRM Imparting Training to Students From Indonesia in Internet Of Things
SRMIST hosted a group of 10 students and faculty from Amikom University-Jogyakarta in Indonesia, for a week-long intensive course on Internet of Things (IoT) delivered by the IT department.
The course was designed as a beginner’s course to IoT. The course curricula spanned 20 contact hours inclusive of a mini project. At the end of the course, the students gained proficiency in basic terminologies, application domains, architecture, infrastructural needs, protocols and scope of IoT. The students also showed motivation to take up next level courses on MOOC offered by Course era or Edx on IoT, for enhancing their learning after this crash course.
One of the hottest new disruptions, IoT is set to have 8.4 Billion Connected "Things" in use by 2017, up 31 percent from 2016. Consumer Applications will represent 63 percent of total IoT applications in 2017.
SRM IST is at the cutting edge of research and education in IoT and has rapidly adapted to the future demands of industry by producing graduates who are industry ready for this industry. It is widely anticipated that, apart from automotive systems, the applications that will be most in use by consumers will be smart TVs and digital set-top boxes, while smart electric meters and commercial security cameras will be most in use by businesses.
The course is set to be repeated over the next two years, as part of a recent agreement signed by the two partners.

SRM is keen on building a long-term growth strategy, having alumni and industry as two main pillars
Dear Students and Friends,
Very often in the academic world, faculty members and senior administrators discuss how to move up the ladder in terms of teaching, research and innovations; or in other words how to make their institutions the envy of the country or the world. At the same time, in the midst of the serious debate, there is also the realization that nurturing the main stake holders is perhaps the key to a successful institution.
This time let me talk of the critical role of two stake holders—the Alumni and the Industry, both of whom will have to be sought after aggressively and persuasively. An institution like SRM Institute of Science and Technology is quite aware of the inherent and potential strength of its alumni. SRM understands and accepts that the alumni is the perhaps the biggest stake holder that, among other things, provides stability and prospects for better growth. If the alumni is seen a critical component of an educational institution and much sought after, it is not without compelling reasons. In ways more than one, it is the alumni that speaks about the track record and strengths of an institution which in turn opens the door for better quality infrastructure, increased placement opportunities and entrepreneurship for future generations.
In India, for some reason, the partnership between Industry and educational institutions has not been to the extent to which it should be; but a phenomenon that is slowly being rectified. It is a two way street and a win-win situation for dynamic support and cooperation brings in new ideas and energy. Internships and project funding are mutually beneficial to the institution and the industry. The industry, for instance, will have a lot to benefit in having a close arrangement with SRM because of our student diversity, access to high class facilities, research laboratory and more importantly the use of our potential for innovation.
We are quite keen on building a long term growth strategy for SRMIST that will have the alumni and industry as our two main pillars that could benefit all stake holders, including students, parents, management and most importantly the society-at- large.
Good Luck And God Bless You All!

To let the nation take pride by making SRMIST one of the topmost international institutions
My Dear Students,
It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself—I am Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, the new Vice-Chancellor of SRM Institute of Science and Technology has formally taken charge on February 14, 2018. I had the opportunity to meet faculty members of the various streams of this institution on the very day and soon I shall have the opportunity of meeting you all.
I am sure all of you are extremely excited about studying in this great institution in whatever field you have chosen. I have been observing SRMIST for quite some time now, academically, professionally and personally being in touch with the top management and administrators. There is no question in my mind that this institution is at the top and this did not happen by chance. It is a meticulous and deliberate strategy that was put in place by the grand visionary of our Founder Chancellor who has built a number of first-rate educational institutions with the sole objective of imparting quality education but without losing track of what India is all about.
Personally, I have been in the portals of higher education for over three decades, in India and overseas; and I most certainly believe that SRMIST will not only be an institution of excellence but also an institution that is going to be the envy of India and the world. But all this is going to take careful planning and meticulous execution. Remember the adage “Rome was not built in a day?”—the same applies here. SRMIST is at the top and stays that way, not by accident. And we have to channelize our wisdom and energies to ensure that we aim and reach higher levels of teaching, learning, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. And at the end of the day, we have to be able to sit back with satisfaction that in the process of seeking higher platitudes we have not lost track of our societal connect.
In the days to come, I am going to be engaging with all the stakeholders directly, especially you: my students. This will enable us to understand the continuing trajectory of the University and identify better strategies so that SRM can make its way to position itself as an acknowledged top-notch international institution and thereby make all of us at SRM and the nation proud. As I begin my tenure here, I am confident that SRMIST will make rapid strides through our collective efforts.
Good Luck And God Bless You All!

Taurus Robotic Technologies – A Venture into War Foot
Ever wondered how many army men we lose every day at the borders? There are, on an average, 4 soldiers, giving up their lives each day for the sake of the nation. The reasons include surgical strikes, terrorist attacks, and the increase in the number of border infiltrations. Undoubtedly, modern warfare is looking out for a whole new future with no human intervention so that there are no lives lost.
Having this in mind, Vignesh and Vibhakar Senthil, alumni of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST), began Taurus Robotic Technologies with a vision of making it the largest independent supplier of robotic products. They are dedicated to serving customers in the defense, public safety, institutions, energy, and industrial markets, who are their main target customers, with their key product being Modular Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicles (M-UGCVs). M-UGCVs not alone provide weaponry supplies but are also capable of carrying medical supplies to assist and rescue soldiers at times of war and surgical strikes.
Two years from now, Taurus Robotic Technologies is looking to deploy 1,00,000 combat robots in the country’s defense. Guess what? The advisors of Taurus are senior Generals and Colonels in the Indian Army and Navy. In addition, Taurus Robotic Technologies is also validating its technology with defense-associated organizations like ADBI, DISA, CVRDE.
The TAURUS team built their dream in college and made their first technical validation by the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, SRM IST and incubated their ideas through SRM Innovation and Incubation Center. Evidently, not very far is the day when we will see unmanned combat vehicles defending the country and saving lives at the same time, and no doubt, Taurus Robotic Technologies will top the list of service providers for defending the country.

SRM won the first place in Smart Hackathon 2018
On first week of April 2018 a team from SRM Deemed to be University, Kattankulathur participated in Smart Hackathon 2018 at Hubli, Kolkata and bagged the 1st place with a cash prize of 1 lakh rupees. The problem statement provided by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation was to help solve the problems associated with the Consumer Price Index data collection. The main objectives were real time data collection of prices of general commodities, improvements in data validation and scrutiny and ensuring physical presence of data collectors in market. Currently collection of data of prices for commodities in each shop in various areas takes place manually and then is entered to the system through Web Portal. Validations are done after data collection hence systems need to be improved.
Since, physical presence of data collectors is not monitored SRM team proposed a solution. A two layered authentication system through a novel approach cryptographically generated QR code along with GPS validation to ensure the physical presence of data collector. The data validation was suggested to be done through comparison of previous and present entries from the data collectors which also provided an alert if there, is a marked change in price when comparing to previous data. Apart from this, there was real time graph representation in the mobile app for easy visualization and verification of data.
To the novel approach in providing solution for attendance system for field staff and for designing good usability of app by providing features like maps to monitor, presentable data sheets and for multi lingual capability of app, SRM team was appreciated. Proof of concept and implementation methodology won them the first place.
SRM Deemed To Be University Signs an MoU With Prodeb Brewery Technology Belgium
SRM Deemed to be University provides more than 300 programs for the students in trend with the industry expectation. The craft brewing industry in India is rapidly growing, consequent to the amendment of the excise policy, spurning the growth of the Microbrewery and Mid-Scale brewing industry. Several states are now amending their Excise policies adding to the growth of this industry. This, in turn, has created a need for qualified and certified brewing professionals. Unfortunately, the educational and technical training establishment has not kept pace with the professional need of this industry. The industry is therefore compelled to employ foreign brewers. Sensing the growth of the industry and opportunities that can be provided to the society as careers, SRM has signed an MoU with Prodeb and has jointly evolved a comprehensive, industry-oriented, craft brewing training program. The program will provide a wide knowledge in academics, practical and engineering aspects in the Art and Science of Brewing.
