SRM Chancellor gifted 100 Computers to Government schools on his Birthday

SRM Chancellor and MP Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar gifted 100 Computers to Government run schools in Perambalur constituency on the occasion of his birthday. He also launched planting of one lakh saplings reflecting his commitment to environmental protection.The computers were received by the headmasters of the schools at T.P. Ganesan Auditorium.             

The event was hosted by SRM Tamil Perayam. It was presided over by Dr. R Balasubramanian, Pro Vice Chancellor. Dr. T.P Ganesan, Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr. N Sethuraman, Registrar; Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Director, Engineering and Technology, and Mr. M Balasubramaniam, Director Finance were also present. Special guest for the event was filmmaker Mr. N Lingusamy.

Mr. M Balasubramanian, Director Finance, announced the welfare schemes for SRM staff on the occasion. He said, “We have only provident fund as of date for our staff and now we have come up with new scheme. Henceforth employees will have four benefits namely, PF, Gratuity, Life cover, and National Pension Scheme. Now all the employees who retire from SRM will get these benefits.” To start with, three families were handed over the cheque for their service to the Institution.

As a part of the Birthday celebration, one lakh tree sapling plantation were initiated, 100 computers have been donated for the Government Schools along with study materials.

On the occasion, free medical camp and organ donation drive, eye donation and blood donation camps were also held.

Veetuku Oru Vigyani 2019 - A Platform for Young Innovative Minds

SRMIST and Puthiya Thalaimurai joined hands to host a mega Science Project Expo titled “Veetuku Oru Vigyani 2019” event for School students at SRMIST, Kattankulathur Campus on 17th August 2019 which had a total participation of about 400+ teams with 200 exhibits from students divided into Junior and Senior teams comprising of Class 7 to 12 std.

‘Veetuku Oru Vigyani 2019,’ is a statewide competition from Puthiya Thalaimurai group which provides a platform for young innovative minds. The competition is split in to two phases. Initially, a district-wise round will be conducted across the state and the district winners will be eligible to participate in Tamil Nadu final to be held in Chennai.

The program was a runaway success with an overwhelming response and the projects were definitely an eye-opener to many problems that we are currently fighting. Concept: This is a proprietary event since 2012, giving an opportunity to tap young scientists in each child at 32 districts in Tamil Nadu and one in Pondicherry.

The winners of the event juniors’ category Sai Ram Vidyalaya Sr. Sec. School and in the senior category Sri Ramakrishna Matric Higher Secondary School.

The program was inaugurated by Shri. S. Ganesh Subramaniam of Ganesh IAS Academy, and felicitating the winners by Dr. B. Neppolian, Dean-Research, Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director-Campus life, SRMIST. On the whole the program got an overwhelming response from student, teachers and parents who were present in the campus.

Tractor Design Competition 2019

The second edition of Tractor Design Competition organized by SAE in association with the SRM Institute of Science and Technology was a grand success. The two-day event, from 22 to 24 August, held at SRMIST Kattankulathur campus saw about 625 students from 24 colleges from all over India participate. Over 50 judges from various industries such as TAFE, Mahindra, RNTBCI, Simpson, evaluated the students. 

The contest consisted of technical presentation and static inspection, noise and Steering tests, weight tests and tractors’ brakes. The overall performance was awarded to students of Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. They were awarded a cash prize of Rs.1,50,000. The second and third place was presented with Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 50,000. Awards were also given in three other categories and each of the winners were presented with cash prizes.

The event was inaugurated by Senior Vice President, R&D, TAFE, S. Sriraman. He spoke on enhancing the Famers’ tools with innovations from student tractor teams. Director, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRMIST,          Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan presided over and gave the presidential address. He said that new pathways are to be found in making students ‘Industry Ready’ such as the possibility of there being a TAFE-SRM Centre of Excellence in the coming months at SRM.

Senior Faculty Advisor, SRM SAE Collegiate Club, and Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. M. Cheralathan welcomed the gathering.

Assistant Professor at BS Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, C. Sivakumar, gave a brief introduction about the competition and its impact. Head of the Department of Automobile Engineering, SRM IST, Dr. Leenus Jesu Martin, gave a glimpse of the accolades won by SRM teams in BAJA, SUPRA competitions and also the induction of new teams such as Efficycle and Tractor teams.

N. Rengarajan, Vice President, Operations, Simpson & Co. Ltd. was the chief guest for the valedictory event. The Guest of Honor was S Sriraman, Senior Vice President, R&D, TAFE. P Baskara Sethupathi, Faculty advisor of SRM SAE Collegiate club and Assistant Professor, Department of Automobile Engineering, SRMIST gave the vote of thanks.

    A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the Youth Rotary Association of India and the Red Cross at SRM Institute of Science and Technology on the occasion of our Founder Chancellor Dr. T.R. Paarivender's birthday - Service Day, which was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sandeep Sancheti. 151 students performed blood transfusions.

    Induction Programme for the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences - 2019

    The induction programme for B.Sc.,(Hons) Agriculture and B.Sc., (Hons) Horticulture, under the faculty of Agricultural Sciences was conducted on 19 August 2019, at Dr. T.P. Ganesan Auditorium, SRMIST,  Kattankulathur campus.

    Before the induction programme, the second year Horticulture students performed cultural events with mime, dances, etc.  First year students also volunteered and performed on the stage.

    The program was inaugurated with the invocation song, followed by the traditional ceremony of lighting the kuthuvilakku. The auditorium was filled with enthusiastic students and delighted parents.

    Dr.T.M.Thiyagarajan, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, welcomed the august gathering. In his address, he highlighted about the upcoming innovative farming project, “SRM - CARE FARM”, for promoting and healing mental health, social and educational care services, which will be benefited by various sections of the society, ranging from school students to IT employees.

    The Honorable Chancellor, SRMIST and Member of Parliament, Dr.T.R. Paarivendhar, a visionary of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences said that agricultural field is having a profound scope, vast opportunities and wide spread applications in different domains of the society. The students were highly kindled and inspired by his thought provoking and motivational address.

    Dr.Sandeep Sancheti, the Vice Chancellor, SRMIST gave his insightful address and highlighted about various aspects and applications of IT in future agriculture. He, further motivated the students to dream of their vision towards the destiny of 4.0 technology in agricultural sciences.

    The annual report of Faculty of Agricultural Sciences 2018 was released by the Honourable Chancellor and all the dignitaries received their copies.

    The programme was felicitated by Dr.T.P. Ganesan, Pro VC, Planning & Development, Dr.R. Balasubramanian Pro VC, External Affairs, Dr.N. Sethuraman, Registrar, Thiru.M. Balasubramanian, Director, Finance, SRMIST.
    Parents were invited on the stage to share their views and were extremely happy and glad that their wards were in the safe and secure hands of faculty of Agricultural Sciences, SRMIST.

    Dr.S. Geetha, Asst.Professor, Dept. of Agroecology, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, delivered the vote of thanks and the programme was marked end with National Anthem.

    The afternoon session included the introduction of faculty members to the parents and students, followed by the informative presentation on “ Introduction to Agriculture” by the Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, SRMIST. He explained about the scope and importance of agricultural sciences, thus clearing the various queries and doubts that would have arised in the minds of freshers and parents.

    The floral arrangements in the welcome reception, stage, podium and the bouquets to dignitaries were specially hand made by the second year horticulture students and gained attention and appreciation of everyone.

    Refreshments and lunch were arranged for students and parents in the hostel mess. The induction programme ended with inspired students with confidence for a bright future and parents with peaceful mind and satisfaction, as their wards have been settled at the right place for a flourishing future in the field of agriculture.
