Taking place at the start of every new year is SRM's most exuberant cultural festival, Milan. Being one of South India's premier college festivals, Milan sets itself apart from other fests with a plethora of events across various domains. From journalism and photography to gaming and quizzes, garnering support from various esteemed institutions and graced by a multitude of celebrities and exponents from the world over, Milan is a tantalising experience that leaves every individual buzzing with energy .
In Sanskrit, the word ‘Milan’ means ‘unification’ or ‘coming together’. Owing to its name, Milan has been bringing together, people from all over the country since 2008. A fest that celebrates art, culture and sports, Milan has been a huge success ever since its inception. As a prelude to Milan, the University hosts an event called ‘Butterflies’ to share their joy with less privileged students studying in schools around SRM. With the tagline ‘Inspiring Change’, this initiative gives them a chance to showcase their talent and compete in various domains.
Milan ’08 was graced by Padma Vibhushan Asha Bhosle, who left the audience mesmerized by her melodious voice. In the subsequent years, the show only got bigger and better. With renowned personalities like Dr. Kamal Haasan, Shreya Goshal, Benny Dayal, Daler Mehndi and Taapsee Pannu, the pro-shows added an element of excitement among the masses. Last year, the curtains to the fest were opened with the presence of popular Bollywood actor John Abraham. From just 25 events in 2008 to over a 100 events in 2017, Milan has grown immensely over the past ten years. With events in almost every field, such as fashion, dance, music and fine arts, it has become one of the most awaited college fests of the country.
