SRM University wins SDAT Trophy 2009-2010

Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu, Government of Tamilnadu awarded cash prize and trophy to SRM University for the outstanding performance in sports

SRM University, the Pioneer Institution in the field of education has achieved a unique feat in the field of sports, during the academic year 2009-10. It is the only University in Tamilnadu which won Gold Medal in All India Inter University in Volleyball and bagged Bronze medal in All India Inter University in Ball Badminton.

Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu (SDAT) awarded cash prize Rs. 65,000 and Trophy to SRM University for producing outstanding sportsman for the year 2009-2010.

Chancellor of SRM University blessed and wished them to rewrite history in the field of sports in the coming years.

International Workshop on Science in the Kitchen - 'Where Culinary Art meets Science'

SRM Institute of Hotel Management is immensely proud to have hosted the  International workshop  “Science in the Kitchen”-“Where Culinary Art meets Science” on 13th & 14th September 2016 at SRM Institute of Hotel Management, Kattankulathur Campus, 09:30 am onwards.

The workshop was conducted by globally renowned Chefs & Culinary experts. The campus was privileged to have Chef Mooroogun Coopen, President - Mauritian Chefs Association & Executive Chef - Le Canonnier Hotel. He was accompanied by Chef Ajay Kurnauth , Pastry Chef and Chef de Cuisine , Chef Westley Chowrimootoo. We also welcomed Chef Jugesh Arora - Culinary Management Consultant, President of the South Indian Culinary Association & Chef Umashanker Dhanapal , India’s first winner of World Culinary Olympics.

The Topic of discussion was – Molecular Gastronomy, the science involved in the kitchen, an ongoing trend in 21st century culinary world. Chef Coopen highlighted the biological, chemical & physical transformation of ingredients that occurs while cooking, so as to improve the culinary techniques and artistic presentation. The session was followed by a training session and also a cooking demonstration by Chef Coopen and his subordinates.

SRM IHM feels extremely elated and honoured having been able to collaborate for the 4th edition of SICA culinary competition & exhibition 2016. We would like to share that SRM Institute of Hotel Management is the main sponsor for this prestigious event. When it comes to providing an exotic culinary experience SRM IHM has always taken extra care to provide the students every knowledge & awareness in a comprehensive way so that they turn out to be capable & proficient Chefs. 
 
Last year after hosting “Shoulder to Shoulder” and “Junior Chefs Forum” with Dr. Chef Soundarajan, Founder General Secretary, Indian Federation of Culinary Association, at this very campus, this SICA workshop was only a step forward for our institution.

The workshop was attended by young budding Chefs not only from our institute but also other hotel management institutions from across the country. The young chefs felt extremely motivated & inspired to experience a session full of insight  and trends which are inevitable to sustain in today’s hard competing culinary world.

A Chef’s job is a noble profession, a job to provide delectable happiness served on a silver platter. SRM IHM humbly requests you all to be part of the press release event which will highlight the current culinary trends & techniques & with pride we would like to mention that the attendees of the event are all “Master’s” when it comes to appearance, texture, flavour, fragrance, colour and taste of food.

Name of the Post: Project Officer (Science)

Eligibility: First Class in M.Sc in Chemistry/and/or M.Phil Chemistry

Desirable :Ph.D

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The applicant is expected to participate actively in R&D activities of GACR which are highly interdisciplinary nature in requiring inputs from various spheres of knowledge: chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, civil engineering, composites technology, etc.
  • Maintenance / operation of equipment / tools/ facilities of Chemical Lab section of CACR, already available in the laboratory.
  • Generation of specification and procurement and installation, etc. of equipment/ tools/facilities related to the present and future needs of the CACR
  • Undertaking Material Characteristics and Chemical Analysis using Analytical Methods and Instruments for evaluation etc. by conducting analytical chemistry oriented experiments as pet the standard and published literature/standards/codes, etc on the materials in general.
  • Identification of new R&D areas and writing project proposals for getting financial support from external funding agencies
  • Planning and execution of specific experimental programs of the various projects undertaken in CACR and using the data generated to write high standard technical /scientific reports/ papers for peer-reviewed journals and workshops/conferences/seminars/conventions/bulletins, etc.
  •  Assisting PhD, PG and UG students and trainees, etc. allotted to CACR in their works/projects.
  • Keeping records and maintenance of manuals of equipments ,etc. as per the university norms and procedures
  • Periodical reports (minimum frequency weekly) preparation and submission to the Head, CACR on the technical/ scientific activities taken during the period
  • Organization/participation of workshops/conferences/seminars/conventions/courses, etc. dissemination of knowledge generated in CACR

One Day Workshop on Environmental Sustainability on the eve of World Ozone Day

One day Awareness Workshop on Environmental Sustainability was organized by department of civil engineering in association with Gothe Institute Chennai on the eve of World Ozone Day held at SRM University, Kattankulathur, Chennai, on 20th of September 2016. Several technical talks on numerous topics by very well renowned persons were arranged around 75 students participants were selected to attend this workshop out of 500 applications received. Mostly   from nearby Schools, Polytechnic and Engineering colleges were selected. 

The event started off with the auspicious lamp lightening ceremony by our honorable chief guest    Dr. J. Daniel Chellappa, [Senior scientist (TCW), BARC, Government of India and Technical Coordinator, Central Expert Group on Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP), Government of India, Chennai and he delivered the inaugural address and stressed upon the need of this kind of awareness workshops. The next talk was by Dr. L R Ganapathy Subramaniam, Professor, Department of Aerospace Engineering SRM University, who shared his valuable knowledge on Ozone layer depletion. Dr. Paromita Chakraborthy, Assistant Professor, Research Institute SRM University, addressed the audience with her thought provoking speech on crude recycling of electronic waste: An emerging problem for India.

The next session was the most awaited program which was the "Hands on training on water quality" led by Mr.S.Ramesh and Mrs.Sija Arun at the environmental engineering laboratory in Hi-Tech building. The session was a new learning experience for students about the methods and equipments used in the environmental engineering lab. This was followed by an informative speech by Dr.B.Neppolian, Professor, Research Institute SRM University, on ‘Impact of Textile Dyes, Arsenic and Chromium on Environment’. 

The valedictory function was addressed by the honorable chief Guest Dr. S. R. Ramanan, Director, (Retd.), Regional Cyclone Warning Centre, Chennai, who shared some of his valuable practical insights on his field, especially on cyclones. This  event conducted by the Department of Civil Engineering, SRM University, including the faculty and students turned out to be a motivating program for the students by inculcating in them new thoughts and ideas about the environment to think upon.
