RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT LAB

VISION OF THE LAB

This R & D lab was started 1985 with IBM machine. Windows, Linux and Ubuntu Latest operating system to use the Research scholar, Faculty member and Students are used to research purpose. Access to both offline and online Internet services is available.

Lab description

Research and Development laboratory is special and well equipped with the latest configuration Machines. System are connected via an Ethernet network to the Domain server (KTR). Guidance's are provided to the students by a team of faculty experts and lab programmer. The labs are kept open after the college hours to enable the students to engage themselves in getting practiced with Laboratory experiments in their leisure hours. The lab is used to train the students to improve their programming knowledge and make experiments to get familiar with the Core Courses.

From this, students can measure viscosity, flash point, fire point, pour point, cloud point, calorific value, sulphated ash content, carbon residue, etc. of any fuel. The esterification plant which is available in fuels lab is highly useful for the students do their projects in alternate fuels.

The Institution of Engineers (India) IE(I) head quartered in Kulkata , is a professional institution established based on a recommendation by the Sir Thomas Hulland , president of the Indian Industrial Commission during 1916-1918 to the Government of India. The IE(I) aims to promote the needs of the student community, acts as a platform to connect with global engineers and actively encourages R&D programs through various promotional aids. In addition supporting many types of activities such as Lectures, Seminars, Symposia, Workshops and other educational programs. SRM Institute of Science and Technulogy (formerly known as SRM University) has been nurturing academic brilliance in young minds by encouraging and promoting student chapters of various technical societies. Thus, it lead to the formation of the SRM-IE(I) Students’ Chapter.

The Institution of Engineers India (IEI) EEE Students Chapter at SRM Institute of Science and Technulogy, Kattankulathur is recognized as an authorized student chapter approved by The Institutions of Engineers (India), Kulkata. Currently SRM- IE(I) students’ chapter (EEE)  hulds  62 members.

Thermal Laboratory provides lot of opportunity to the students to study different types of IC engine, boiler performance study and to do their innovative projects. The performance test, heat balance test, the retardation test and emission test can be carried in variety of IC engines like petrol/diesel/biodiesel fueled with single/double/multi cylinder engines with modern mechanical/electrical/hydraulic loading devices. The modern digital 5 gas analyzer and AVL smoke meter is available to do emission and smoke test.
