About: 

I have done PhD in Biotechnology with specialization in Genomics, where I have successfully sequenced and analyzed the whole transcriptome of Jatrophacurcas using both traditional Sanger sequencing and Next Generation sequencing to discover the genes for oil biosynthesis and other important pathways. After this I have taken up a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at University of Toronto, Canada, where I worked on a project, genome and global transcriptome analysis of Pinusstrobus and Pinusbanksiana (plants known to have higher genome size among plants) using next generation sequencing and advanced genomic tools to identify the genes and proteins involved in the cold hardening process and adaptation to the future climatic conditions of this conifer plants.

After returning to the SRM University as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Genetic Engineering, Iam engaged in advanced research on genomics with funding support from DBT as a Principal Investigator. My group is actively involved in sequencing the organelle and nuclear genomes of major edible oil seed crop from India with the support of DBT. We are also actively involved in genome, transcriptome sequencing and analysis in plants, human and bacteria using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and advanced genomic tools. I am one of the PI in the project “SRM-DBT Partnership Platform for Contemporary Research Services and Skill Development in Advanced Life Sciences Technologies” with total outlay of 16.00 Crores.

I havevery strong expertise in all analysis in advanced genomics and have around 9 years of experience in genome analysis using traditional and various NGS technologies. I have published several research articles in high impact peer-reviewed journals in the area of core genomics such as Nature Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Plant Science, BMC Genomics, Journal of Genetics and Genomics etc and many of these articles were accessed and cited well.  I am also a reviewer for several reputed journals such as Nature Scientific Reports, PLoS ONE, Plant Molecular biology Reporter etc. I have very strong expertise in advanced genomics across all the species of life including Human, Plants and Bacteria which is rare that any person could have experienced in analyzing the genome of different species of life.

Advanced Genomics:

Genome, exome, transcriptome sequencing, genome assembly and analysis in human, plants and bacteria

Genome is the total DNA content of an organism. Transcriptome is the total content of the expressed genes from an organism. The complete decoding of the genome and transcriptome of every organism such as animals, plants, algae and bacteria is essential to study the genetics of an organism and to manipulate the organisms genetically to benefit the world. Sequencing of human genome is much easier now with the new sequencing technologies and we are actively engaged in it. The total plant genome includes three separate genomes namely nuclear, chloroplast and mitochondria. The size of the each genome varies between 15kb to 16000Mb and more. Initially, sequencing of the bigger genomes was not possible due to cost and time. But now, this is feasible with the combination of next and third generation sequencing technologies. Our group is actively involved in the whole genome, transcriptome sequencing and analysis in human, plants and bacteria using newest sequencing technologies and novel approaches.Exome sequencing in Human are also being done by our group. We are also actively involved in the organelle genome sequencing in plants where we are currently sequencing the complete genome from chloroplast, mitochondria of major edible oil seed crops from India with the support of DBT, Govt. of India. We are also involved in sequencing the genome and transcriptome of important plant species from India. We are also involved in developing the new approaches and tools to improve the genome and transcriptome assembly and analysis of genomes from different organisms with varied genome structures and features.
