A 3- member team from Flinders University, Australia visited SRM University in August 2016 to widen and deepen the on-going relationship between the two sides.
Reputed for its excellence in teaching and research, and QS ranked at 501-550, Flinders University has over 2,000 staff, 21,000 students (including over 3,600 international students from nearly 100 countries), almost 350 courses, and over 60,000 Alumni, making it one of the largest institutions of higher education in Australia.
The teamincluded Professor Robert Saint, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research), noted scientist in Cell and Developmental Biology;Dr Christopher MM Franco, Professor of Biotechnology and Head, Medical Biotechnology, School of Medicine, an expert onactinobacteria for pharmaceuticals and agriculture; and Professor Gunther Andersson, School of Chemical and Physical Sciences, pioneering researcher in the field of nanotechnology.
Holding wide ranging discussions with scientists and faculty in medical science, physics and bio technology, the two sides identified areas of complementarity and mutual interest, leading to new vistas for collaboration in student mobility, faculty exchange and research.
In the ensuing meeting with the Vice Chancellor, SRM University, Professor Prabir K Bagchi, the scope and nature of the emerging new pathways for collaboration were discussed. “Living in an increasingly connected world, institutions of higher learning need to collaborate across boundaries. We look forward to building a vibrant progamme of activity with Flinders, keeping our common interests in mind.” said Professor Bagchi during his interaction with the team from Flinders.
