Video clip of Cloud Images of INSAT 3D during 1st to 30th Nov 2021

Chennai city witnessed heavy rains during November 2021.  As per the records, low pressures over Bay of Bengal, southeast Bay of Bengal and south Andaman Sea caused the heavy rains over Chennai during November 2021. The location SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST) situated in the outskirts of Chennai also experienced heavy rainfall during this period. SRM IST has weather monitoring station and through which the daily weather data is captured. SRM IST has experienced 1337mm of rainfall during November 2021. The rainfall received during this period is higher than the rainfall received during Nov 2015 (1105mm).  The rainfall is almost 300% above the mean rainfall value (336mm) for the last 10 years during the November 2021. (10 years data has been taken for the period 2011 to 2020 from the gridded data of India Meteorological Department).

Team of faculty and research scholars of Atmospheric Science Research Laboratory (ASRL), Department of Physics and Nanotechnology, SRM IST have used the cloud image data from INSAT 3D satellite from the Meteorological & Oceanographic Satellite Data Archival Centre (https://www.mosdac.gov.in/) developed by Space Applications Centre, ISRO and prepared a video clip of cloud images for the period 1st to 30th Nov 2021. A total of around 1400 images have been collected with 30 minutes interval and processed as a video clip. Whenever, the SRM IST experienced a heavy rainfall ( > 60mm per day), the rainfall amount was shown on the video clip. Dr.T.V. Lakshmi Kumar, Dr. A. Naga Rajesh and the research scholars Ganesan M, M Ashok  Williams and Bharath J were involved in preparing this video clip.
