Speaking at the event, Lt Gen A. Arun said, "We don't need one more engineer but our focus should be on creating entrepreneurs. Believe in yourself, believe in people, and most importantly have an impeccable belief and faith in your superior."
He added that DNA is wired with Drive and passion, Desire to lead, Integrity, and Intelligence. He emphasized that as leaders one must have a vision, build teams, motivate, mentor, develop people, and allocate tasks.
To make leadership easy he suggested, "First create a vision, set goals (reasonable ones), focus on others dreams, share the excitement, involve everyone, communication (thinking, listening, speaking and nonverbal), motivation, share stories and practice compassion."
He then listed out the four most common traits of leadership: Supporting others, Seeking new perspective, Outcome driven: results, and solving problems.
"Changes in an organization and icebergs are similar. It involves 10% organizational rule system and 90% of emotions, culture, and people."
Concluding his presentation, Lt. Col A. Arun said, "The most supreme lesson that leaders should follow is to find a way to keep yourself happy. Because your challenge is to be architects of the future... not defenders of the decline. It is important for leaders such as yourselves to create leaders."
Registrar Dr. S. Ponnusamy presented the vote of thanks and assured the guest speaker Lt. Col. A. Arun that all the Deans and Directors present would put to use these suggestions so that they help grow together.
