SRMIST hosted the 4th Railway Brake and Friction Conference

The Department of Automobile Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur hosted the 4th Railway Brake and Friction Conference 2019 recently. The two-day conference brought together industry, policy makers, and the research community to share technical knowledge and do business. Several technical talks were organized and speakers from various technical expertise and experience of doing railway business in India spoke during the conference.

Dr. Shashank Virmani of Brake Friction Conference Ltd, London, gave a brief introduction to the event and what people can expect from it. He said, “This is the fourth edition and the Railway Brake and Friction Conference series is annually attended by around 100 brake and friction experts from around the world. The previous events were held in UK and China. The next conference is to be held in Australia.”

In his presidential address, Director (Engineering & Technology) Dr C Muthamizhchelvan said, “This conference will give a deep insight into brake and fiction. This is the first conference in SRMIST to have so many industry people participate. This will lead to collaborative and comprehensive learning.”

Chief Guest for the event, Chief Engineer, Indian Railways, Ankala Saibaba said, “This conference will showcase some of the latest and existing developments in Indian Railway. This will be a win-win situation between industry, students, and customers. It will also help manufactures in minimizing traction forces in Railways so that the railway lines can perform for a long term.”

HOD of Automobile Engineering, Dr. M. Leenus Jesu Martin welcomed the gathering. All the guest speakers and other dignitaries were felicitated on the occasion.
