Comprehensive Evaluation and treatment are given to patients with all types of speech problems in our department. There are two divisions viz. Speech diagnostics and Speech therapy.
We get our referrals from doctors of other specialities viz. ENT, Paediatrics, Neurology, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry, Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, etc. We also get referrals from other colleges within the campus viz, Dental, etc. Significantly, we get referrals from private clinics, and service organisations, from far-off regions also. This is a measure of our sustained reputation.
We encourage 'walk-in' patients also and help them in their rehabilitation and empowerment. We also visit various schools in the vicinity, screen the students for speech defects, and empower them. We conduct awareness among the students and the faculty of the schools, about speech preservation.
Speech Diagnostic Services division
This division is situated in the First floor of the hospital building, There are separate cubicles, equipped with various diagnostic test materials. also, we have a recording room, with facilities to record and store voice samples, in order to analyse and for monitoring the progress of therapy. Patients admitted in General Medicine, Neurology, Paediatrics and other wards, are referred to us, on a need basis. In the case of patients, who are unable to move because of stroke, injury, etc., we visit the concerned wards to impart speech therapy in the wards, themselves. We routinely carry out the following:
- Assessment of Child language disorder
- Voice evaluation using CSL, Dr. Speech, Spirometry
- Bedside evaluation, whenever required
After such evaluation, we plan a therapy schedule, tailored to suit the individual patient. We set the goals for therapy and a timeline. After this, the patients are taken over by our Speech Therapy division.
Speech Therapy Division
This division is situated on the Fifth Floor of the hospital building, in a relatively quieter area. Separate therapy cabins, equipped with various therapy materials, are available.
We provide speech therapy for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Hearing Impairment, Intellectual Disability, Fluency disorders, Feeding & swallowing, etc. Patients are given individual speech therapy. Their progress is monitored critically by our senior faculty. we ensure adherence to the set goals and the timeline. Group therapy technique is also employed.
For the children, who are unable to come in person, home therapy is afforded. Tele rehabilitation, over the regular phone lines, is also done, in selected and suitable patients. Parents meeting is regularly conducted every week/fortnight. Thus, the parents are taken aboard the therapy team.
