SRMIST hosted a group of 10 students and faculty from Amikom University-Jogyakarta in Indonesia, for a week-long intensive course on Internet of Things (IoT) delivered by the IT department.
The course was designed as a beginner’s course to IoT. The course curricula spanned 20 contact hours inclusive of a mini project. At the end of the course, the students gained proficiency in basic terminologies, application domains, architecture, infrastructural needs, protocols and scope of IoT. The students also showed motivation to take up next level courses on MOOC offered by Course era or Edx on IoT, for enhancing their learning after this crash course.
One of the hottest new disruptions, IoT is set to have 8.4 Billion Connected "Things" in use by 2017, up 31 percent from 2016. Consumer Applications will represent 63 percent of total IoT applications in 2017.
SRM IST is at the cutting edge of research and education in IoT and has rapidly adapted to the future demands of industry by producing graduates who are industry ready for this industry. It is widely anticipated that, apart from automotive systems, the applications that will be most in use by consumers will be smart TVs and digital set-top boxes, while smart electric meters and commercial security cameras will be most in use by businesses.
The course is set to be repeated over the next two years, as part of a recent agreement signed by the two partners.
