About the Department:
The department is mainly involved in Clinical Research that performs both sponsored Multi-centric Clinical Trials, Academic Clinical trials, and Principal Investigator-initiated Academic studies. At present, the department has one Professor, one Assistant Professor, four Clinical Research Associates, one Senior Research Fellow and one Research Nurse. The department has facilities to perform phase 3/4 clinical trials including data documentation using electronic case report form or paper case report form, dedicated space for storing investigational medicinal product, archival room for storage of documents of clinical trials that have been completed, audio-visual consenting room, patient examination room, high speed internet, power back up, -80 deep freezer, refrigerator, bottle cooler and a clinical pharmacology lab for performing laboratory assays. The department was established in October 2012.
Research:
The Department of Clinical Pharmacology has set its primary focus as clinical research. Clinical Research is carried out in collaboration with various departments such as Cardiology, Medical Research, General Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics and SRM Research Institute. The main focus of research is on the identification of novel biomarkers for the prognostication of coronary artery disease, premature coronary artery disease, and early pregnancy loss. The department is also involved in several, sponsored, multi-centric and academic clinical trials.The Indian Council of Medical Research has funded a project titled “Evaluation of Multimarker strategy to Prognosticate patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome” in April 2017.
Teaching:
Besides performing research, we also engage in teaching activities such as conducting clinical research & regulatory workshops at both local and national level. We train investigators in Good clinical research practice and also train them in research methodology and biostatistics. We also help in guiding DM students, MD students and Pharm D students in their research projects.
