The Indian Science Association Chennai Chapter in association with SRM Institute of Science and Technology Department of English and Foreign Languages organized a guest lecture session over An Overview of doing Research in English Studies, for the staff and students of the department on January 2, 2018. The resource person for the event was Dr. Rajeevnath Ramnath, Associate Professor, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the University of Nottingham Campus in Malaysia.
Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, convener, ISCA-Chennai Chapter and Director of Science and Technology delivered the keynote address. Dr. Cauveri, Asst. Professor, EFL welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person to the audience.
During this interactive and thought-provoking session, Dr. Ramnath reflected upon the scope and various plausible areas for researchers in English language and literature at post graduation and doctoral levels. He specifically addressed the key components which result in successful research projects in English and associated genres and quoted several instances where research outputs did not do justice to research questions. He laid emphasis on developing an understanding and following an apt methodology for carrying out research in English studies.
Hence, talk included the methodology to be followed in identifying a research problem, analysis of available data, deducing results, and producing relevant and cohesive thesis etc. Dr. Ramnath also answered queries pertaining to research in English Language Teaching and Literature during the questioning and discussion session followed by his special talk. The talk was attended by the staff members, research scholars, and post graduate students of the department of English and Foreign Languages.
The talk came to its end with a deliverance of vote of thanks by Dr. K. Anbazhagan, Head and Professor, EFL.
